New Year: New Me? The Final Part.

Maybe you're smashing your goals... Maybe you're on track (minus a few hiccups here and there!)... Or maybe you're just about to get started with that first step... Wherever you are in your journey currently, why not use the follow questions for self-reflection in order to make some tweaks and changes to your current routine? You never know, it might just take you a little closer to your dreams...

It may feel like a mountain to climb right now but the views are already beautiful!

Over to you:

So is there anything that you think you could do a little differently when working towards your goals? The questions below (following on from my last blog) may be useful when ascertaining the best supportive approach to utilise so that you can move forward with positivity and passion!

Planning in advance:

  • Take a look at your weekly schedule/planner, are there any opportunities for you to allocate an allotted time slot to work towards your weekly goal? I often create a weekly schedule and by using a colour coded system, I am able to see how my time is distributed across key areas (such as, writing, work, exercise etc).

  • When do you work best? Is it the morning, afternoon or evening? For me personally, when doing anything that requires intellectual and mental energy, the mornings are when I am most alert and productive.

  • Is there any time in your week that could be used more productively? Sometimes I find that I can make more of my evenings as opposed to just watching TV for hours on end!

Accountability:

  • How could you incorporate the concept of accountability?

  • Do you have a friend who perhaps has similar interests/goals to yours?

  • Are there any groups in your local area that could offer a little support in your chosen area?

Sometimes a little research goes along way! Last year, I was really keen to improve on my writing/learn about the publishing industry and, with a little research, I found out that there was entire festival devoted to this right on my doorstep! There is always so many like-minded people out there that are often trying to do the same thing as you and in the 21st century, it is so much easier to connect and find these communities.

Positive self-talk:

Positive self-talk can often be a bit of challenge, especially when we are often so hard on ourselves! But sometimes just thinking about the following questions, can make a mountain feel more like a mole hill and therefore a little more manageable!

  • In the morning, ask yourself: what is one thing you can do today to take you a little closer to achieving your dream? Depending on how much time (or energy!) you have, this can be big or small!

  • In the evening, spend a little time reflecting on the day by ask yourself both the following questions: what was one of my achievements today? What can I do tomorrow that will help propel me forward towards my dreams?

It is so important to both congratulate yourself regularly whilst continue to make positive steps forward. These little shifts train our minds to be a little more proactive and focused but most importantly compassionate towards ourselves.

Keeping a journal:

  • What type of journal would you to keep? There are many different types available on the market. From gratitude journals to self-care, nature to reading, dreams to travel- there are so many to choose from! So it's good to take some time to think about what you would like to journal about and what motivates you, in order to maximise its benefits.

  • Would you prefer prompts or to 'free-write'? Again this is completely dependent on the individual. You may be someone who prefers prompts or questions to direct your reflections or you may prefer to invest in a blank notebook and just write freely from your stream of consciousness.

  • When would you like to journal and how often? You may prefer sunrise. You may prefer sunset. You may even prefer it to be as and when it feels needed. Again, this will differ from person to person. I often opt for evening, just before bedtime. I keep my journal and pen by my bedside and it is an evening ritual that helps settle my mind before sleep.

Meditation, Visualisation & Inspiration:

What time of the day would you like to meditate/visualise? When implementing any new activity, it can be useful to think about a time of day when you are most like to be successful in accomplishing it. It could be first thing in the morning, last thing at night or as and when needed throughout the day.

Sometimes, marrying it up to an existing habit can also be hugely beneficial, such as a two minute morning meditation session whilst waiting for the kettle to boil or a ten minute meditation before bedtime after reading a chapter of your book. Attaching it to an existing habit serves a good reminder!

  • What type of vision board would you like to create? There are so many different types of vision boards that you can complete. It could be a vision board that encompasses all your dreams and aspirations for the next year or it could even be for the next three or five years! You might also want to include some of your previous achievements and current sources of gratitude as reminders to also stay present and grounded in the process.

You may prefer your vision board to be a handmade collage or it could be a digital copy and it can contain anything you desire! It may include inspirational quotes and people, photographs of your favourite hobbies, images of places you want to travel, words that link to your dreams and even your favourite colours- cover it with anything that motivates and inspires you!

  • What inspires you?

Think outside the box! What helps keep you motivated? Film and music, being in nature, sports, volunteering and charity work, travel and exploring, arts and culture, history and politics, geography and the environment, documentaries and podcasts, being with animals, socialising and connecting with others. These are just a few ideas- there are so many more and this will be unique to you!

My Actions:

For this week my actions will be the following:

  1. To create a vision board for 2025.

  2. To put together an inspirational playlist of upbeat and energising songs.

  3. To attempt to one "free-writing" journal session.

Final Words:

In the coming months, I will continue to collate a monthly blog that will be devoted to goal setting and self-care in order to provide continual support and top tips on some of the areas covered in this three-part series of blogs. Any goal, dream or process is always a journey but it is a journey that can be made varied, interesting and fun along the way with so much beauty to be seen!

Thank you for reading my blog

~

wishing you a wonderful week and a fabulous February!
