Lights, lunches and laughs!

A view from Carlton Hill in Edinburgh
The Lights at The Botanic Garden!

We're on the countdown (or run-up, whichever you prefer to call it!) to the festive period and I'm looking forward to some rest and reflection... 2025 has been a busy year and it has now been nearly ten months since I made the move to Scotland.

I'm proud of all that I have achieved so far since being here. So although I want to spend this time relaxing with friends and family, I am also keen to start making my 2026 plans (in the knowledge that I will be much more settled and established!).

However, for the moment, it's all about Christmas cheer, winter wonderlands and twinkling bright lights.

Playing 'Violet Bick'

My Highlights:

  • visiting family and pets;

  • good coffee and brunch with friends;

  • panto season;

  • conversation and cocktails (non-alcoholic) with friends;

  • performing in It's A Wonderful Life as 'Violet Bick';

  • seeing the light show at the Royal Botanic Garden in Edinburgh;

  • and finally, enjoying festive window displays.

  • Top Tips and Lessons Learnt for Relocating:

  1. Experience over fear! Okay, it might not have worked out how I'd have liked but what am I learning from the experience? I am trying to lean in and accept discomfort as opposed to allowing it to fuel my fears.

  2. Progress over perfection! Sometimes we are already doing things that are really cool, taking us out of our comfort zone and bringing us closer to our goals, but instead of celebrating that and trusting the process, we allow our desires of perfection to steal the simple joy of progress.

  3. Boundaries over pleasing! I am currently trying to practise being more boundaried with my time, needs and privacy.

  4. Reflection over reaction! Time is powerful. Time is a healer. Time can be our best friend. When something goes wrong, take your time before reacting (or in my case, spiralling!) and allow the beauty of time to "take the edge off it".

  5. Change over chastise! Instead of chastising myself for making mistakes, I am looking to implement better habits for effective change.

This is a snapshot of my experience so far and I will be posting a monthly blog: updating you on my adventures in Scotland along with my highlights and lessons learnt!
