Sightseeing, socialising and settling in!

Here is the third instalment of my Scotland update! Although things have been busy, it has felt good! My last couple of months have been filled with many lovely experiences: writing time, auditions, networking, catching up with friends and taking time out for myself in between.
For the first time since moving here, I am starting to feel a little more settled and content. The first couple of months felt somewhat tiring but now I feel my energy returning and I feel excited about the upcoming months!
Read on to hear all about my highlights and top tips for relocating.

My Highlights So Far:
doing a cycle tour of Edinburgh with a good friend of mine who was visiting for the weekend;
spending time in nature at Loch Leven;
doing front of house for a couple of local theatre companies and then watching their incredible shows;
attending acting auditions and landing a part in a Fringe Festival show;
and finally, visiting Crewe for the weekend for a little rest and relaxation (see pictures below).
Top Tips for Relocating:
Progress over perfection. This is my new mantra currently. As someone who struggles with perfectionism, I am trying to lower the expectations that I place on myself. Instead of giving myself a 'hard time' when things don't go perfectly, I am trying to place value on the experience and the progress made, as opposed to fixating on what (I believe) I could have done differently or what (I think) I should have done. For example, if I feel that my performance of a poem at the open mic night wasn't as great as I would have liked, I am trying to congratulate myself on 'giving it a go'.
Take your time to get to know people. Sometimes in a new place there can can be a fear of being alone, not making friends or not finding a 'group'. But sometimes it is better to take your time getting to know people instead of rushing into these new relationships. Not only does this remove the pressure, but it also provides a chance for you to reflect on these interactions and see whether or not they are positive, nourishing and natural.
Protect your social battery. Following on from the above point, we can sometimes feel a certain expectation to fill up the diary... Yes it is good to be busy but not at the expense of our own well-being. Meeting new people all the time can be fun and exciting but can also be tiring, so make sure you protect the time for yourself. Recently, I have realised that I love a Saturday morning to myself for coffee drinking and writing time so now I call that my 'protected time'.
Prioritise the things you need! For me that is good sleep. If I don't get my eight hours, it can affect my mental and physical wellness. So if there is something that can disrupt your everyday well-being, identify it and prioritise it!
Things take time! Initially I felt that I would never settle in or 'get going' on my goals but I have realised that these things do take time. It is only now- after a little over three months of being here- that I feel more settled and ready to work on my priorities.
This is a snapshot of my experience so far and I will be posting a monthly blog: updating you on my adventures in Scotland along with my highlights and lessons learnt!
