Travel to Tallinn- Estonia's thriving capital- and be transported to the fairy-tale-like wonder of this impressively preserved medieval town (a UNESCO World Heritage Site).

Top Five Sights:
Alexander Nevsky Cathedral: built when Estonia was part of the Russian Empire, this Eastern Orthodox church is both spectacular and stunning.
Old Town Square: with the cobblestones and colourful buildings, it really does look magical. There are many cafes and restaurants in this area, so you can grab a coffee (or something a little stronger!) and soak up the vibrant atmosphere. The city's town hall also overlooks this square and is over seven hundred years old!
St. Olaf's Church: built in the 12th Century, this architectural masterpiece also provides an impressive viewing platform- offering bird's-eye views of the city.
Tallinn City Walls: part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, there is about 2 km of this original defensive build still standing. Hellemann Tower and Nun Tower are some of the best areas to view the impressive structure.
St. Mary's Cathedral: also referred to as the Dome Church, this Lutheran church dates back to the 13th Century and is therefore, one of its oldest churches. In the heart of the Old Town, the tower has panoramic views of the city.
Need to knows!
Currency: | The Euro (EUR). |
Language: | Estonian is the official language spoken here but English is widely spoken here. Russian is also widely spoken. |
Plug type: | Types C & F. |
Travel: | Often included as a port on many cruise ship itineraries, especially Baltic ones. It takes approximately twenty minutes by bus from the city centre to Tallinn's airport. You can travel by bus or taxi but the bus is more budget friendly. |
Cash or card? | Card is accepted most places, although I would still recommend carrying some small amounts of cash and change. |

My Experience:
I was really excited to visit Tallinn as I had always heard lots of good things about this city. And although I visited on a grey, cloudy day, the capital's beauty still shone through.
The Old Town (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) really is magnificent with so many impressive architectural feats along with cute, cobblestone streets and winding paths. There are so many historical and cultural sites to see so you won't get bored! I was only here for one day and it definitely wasn't enough time to truly see everything here... I think a return trip is on the cards!
