The Great South American Adventure

Adventure: an unusual, exciting, and sometimes dangerous activity, journey, experience, or bold undertaking that involves unknown risks and an uncertain outcome (Cambridge Dictionary).

This time (nearly two years ago now!), I was a couple of weeks from finishing up an epic time of travelling across the world: where I'd met the most most marvellous people, experienced the most incredible sights and enjoyed "once in a lifetime" moments. In my next sequence of blogs, I will share my journey to each of these countries along with highlights (and occasional lowlights) and lessons learnt from backpacker life!

So why now? Well, I guess it feels strange to have a travel blog and to have not yet written about this big part of my travel history. I've also realised recently the importance of treasuring memories: you think you'll remember everything but as time moves on, it's really quite astounding the number of magical moments from our past that we forget, take for granted or simply lose sight of their reason/purpose in shaping the person we are at present. Furthermore, this journey is a big part of the where I am today: in Edinburgh working hard towards my goals and dreams.

Why did I decide to travel to South America? I always knew that I wanted to take some time out to travel so I spent years saving up to go and once I had the savings I was keen to go as soon as possible! I was between South East Asia and South America but with my dates/timings the South America tour worked out well. I had decided upon a tour as I knew that many of the great sights and experiences would require permits and a lot of organisation (i.e. the Inca Trail). Moreover, the continent is huge and I wanted to cover as much as possible in the small time frame that I had so the luxury of a tour comes with the luxury of having all your transport sorted for you. That being said, for my next travel adventure, I would love to co-ordinate it and carry it out all by myself: another challenge for another time!

So what will this sequence of blog cover? My great South American tour began in Ecuador and finished in Ecuador with a trip to the famous Galapagos Islands. So what happened in between? Well, Peru, Bolivia, Chile, Argentina, Uruguay and Brazil happened...

For my next blog I invite you for a tour of Ecuador! Join the journey for the unusual, the risky, and the excitement in this sequence of adventurous undertakings...

Thank you for reading my travel blog

~

I hope to see you again soon!
