Between the maritime magic and Gothic charm, these two destinations will leave you spellbound!

The Lighthouse

My Top Sights:

  1. The Lighthouse: climb the spiral staircase to experience the mesmerising views of cascading cruise liners against tiny boats and modest yachts. There is a sense of humble traditions- on this historic waterway- meeting the modern world!

  2. The Canal (Alter Strom): lined with chic cafes, cute bars and temptingly delicious restaurants, enjoy your food or drink with a serving of spectacular nautical vibes.

  3. The Beaches (Strand): expansive, rugged and stunning, prepare to be blown away by this Baltic beach beauty!

  1. Rostock: famous for its university along with the Gothic St. Mary's Church (that houses the famous 15th century astronomical clock), there is so much history to be heard here!

  2. Other points of interest include: Warnemünde Church, the Tea Pot building by the beach (home to restaurants and cafes) and finally, the heritage museum (Heimatmuseum Warnemünde).

Need to knows!

Currency:

The Euro (EUR).

Language:

German is the official language spoken here.

Plug type:

Types C & F.

Travel:

Often included as a port on many cruise ship itineraries. From Warnemunde to Rostock it is a little over 8 miles and you can get there via bus, train or taxi.

Cash or card?

Both are accepted so I would recommend carrying both! Sometimes the smaller cafes, restaurants and shops prefer cash so it's best not to be caught out!

My Experience:

Warnemünde was amazing! On the day that I visited, I was lucky that it turned out to be a gorgeous summer's day so I just wandered around eating ice cream before stopping to sip an aperol spritz in a cute bar along the canal- a perfect day in my eyes! Warnemünde really is the epitome of a pretty, picture-perfect seaside town so I would recommend this gem of a place.

I also really enjoyed my time in the city of Rostock. Between the history and its Gothic and baroque blended buildings, there is lots to see and do here. I was able to spend a morning in Rostock (on a guided tour) and an afternoon in Warnemünde (by myself) and I found this to be a sufficient amount of time for both. It was also the perfect balance of sightseeing and relaxation!
